The armchair 400 was unveiled at the Milan Triennial in 1936. The seat has solid wood frame made of bent, laminated birch, metal springs, and upholstered foam.

The seat is 23 1/2" deep, 21 3/4" wide, and 14 5/8" high. With its low-slung look and solid shape, the chair was affectionately nicknamed the "tank."

The chair is manufactured by a Helsinki-based design company Artek. http://www.artek.fi/en/
