In my work I have explored presenting the experience of time and space on a visual level. The starting-point is a two-dimensional blueprint as a map of a space. The field of visibility is on the visibility level of a point selected on the blueprint. The field illustrates position in the space represented on the map. Movement, however, is a temporal experience. With a computer, it is possible to move the point and simultaneously follow the changing field of visibility. Temporal experience can also be demonstrated as an individual image. The fields of visibility calculated from along the chosen route are placed on top of each other. A three-dimensional form is thus born; it is a recording of the unity of visibility covered by the route. The figure can be thought of as a metaphor for the experience of moving in space. The program on display gives the user a possibility to establish routes in the blueprint.
Tero Heikkinen will graduate as an MA from the degree programme in spatial design. Most recently he has been focusing on methods and tools for understanding space. His personal history also includes fine arts, carpentry and music.
